Antonin Lhota (1812-1905), Nicolas Copernic - vers 1856

  1. Some sources claim that the person painted here is Nicolaus Copernicus and after a closer look at this painting I think they may be right. There is a globe in the lower right corner - a link to astronomy. The book in the character's hands may be "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" - a work that was issued in the year Copernicus died. And, of course, there is a renaissance attire worn by the characters.
